Notice to Alberta First Nations and industry: Working towards resolution of Alberta's Production Allocation Unit Agreements (PAUA)
December 2025
This is a follow up to the June 2025 Notice to Alberta First Nations and industry: Inapplicability of Alberta's Production Allocation Unit Agreements.
Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) is working collaboratively with Alberta's Department of Energy and Minerals to improve and align the production allocation process for multi-jurisdictional wells involving designated Alberta First Nation lands. This joint effort reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that production is allocated in a fair, accurate, and transparent manner, and that First Nations receive their rightful share of oil and gas revenues derived from their lands.
IOGC and the Government of Alberta have engaged in constructive discussions and are building a renewed, cooperative approach that aligns regulatory requirements, supports operational clarity for industry, and strengthens our intergovernmental relationship. As this process advances, IOGC will continue to engage with First Nations and subsurface contract holders to support clear, consistent, and equitable production allocation methods that reflect both jurisdictions' interests.
We look forward to our continued partnership with Alberta's Department of Energy and Minerals as we work together to develop an improved allocation framework that benefits First Nations and provides certainty for industry.
